People used to raise their eyebrows when they would hear that my 12 month old was exclusively breastfed. He latched on immediately after Birth without any issues and my midwife was surprised at how well he was latching and that I didn’t have any nursing issues. My Mom on the other hand was not so happy about my supply and wanted me to start him on formula when he had fever on day 2. I was even more motivated to breastfeed because I knew if I could do anything good for his fever it was nursing as much as I could. My supply kicked in on Day 3 as expected but my Mom still wanted me to start him on formula, I didn’t give up. Lots of well meaning friends and relatives kept advising me to start him on solids or formula and I highly respect their concern but I am glad I didn’t give up. And now I tandem nurse my 2 Gorgeous Babies.
Mamas who couldn’t breastfeed for some or the other reasons I truly honor your decision to formula feed your little one so please don’t beat yourself up but make sure you search for the best formula without those nasty chemicals and ingredients or make your own formula. You did everything you could to breastfeed and you are doing everything you can for your LO so be proud to be a good Mom 🙂 If you are a Mom who gave up nursing due to some reason I highly recommend trying this recipe for at least 2 weeks. I will also be posting about re-lactating herbs and homeopathy soon for Moms who haven’t breastfed in weeks or months and would like to restart breastfeeding.
Try this Recipe to Increase Milk Supply
Almonds- 1 Cup (you can skip it if you are allergic to nuts)
A glass of Coconut Milk, Goat Milk or Cow’s Milk (if you and your LO can tolerate cow’s milk)
Extra Virgin Coconut Oil – 1 Tablespoon (I love this Brand)
Fennel Seeds- 1 Tablespoon
Fenugreek Seeds- 1 Tablespoon
A small bowl of Green or Ripe Papaya
A bunch of Spinach
1 Tablespoon Organic Raw Honey (This Brand)
Some crushed ice
Soak almonds in a bowl and fennel and fenugreek in a separate bowl overnight. In the morning blanch the almonds, strain the fennel and fenugreek. Place everything in a blender, you can use soaked fenugreek and fennel seeds in curries/soup or discard them, blend well and have it everyday. If the smoothie is too thick add some more milk and blend again. This recipe alone can increase your milk supply.
Oh! And please don’t worry about the weight gain part, I didn’t gain a pound. In fact, I lost 45 pounds (20kg) in the first month(after my first Pregnancy) itself and maintained the same weight until I got pregnant with my second Baby . This smoothie looks rich but it also has Fenugreek and Papaya that neutralize the weight gain issue because these 2 foods help in weight loss, I can see you smile 🙂
Would love to hear your feedback on this recipe, give it a try and let me know how it goes:)
