How To Make Your Own Holistic Medicine Kit

I grew up using conventional medicines because my family was not into Alternative Medicines. My Grandmom who passed away recently definitely had some awesome home remedies that she would share with us but most of the time we would use conventional medicine, scary I know! And I really can’t believe I took all those toxic medicines until I left home at 18.  I still used conventional medicines occasionally but its then when I truly gained interest in herbs and natural remedies.

Conventional Medicine is not an answer to our health and well-being because it only suppresses the symptoms and never heals us. Healthy Nutrition, Herbs and Homeopathy are the keys to Vibrant Health! 🙂

So are you ready to create your own Natural Medicine Chest?

Making your own Natural Medicine Chest is not difficult but it might take some time to completely stock up your medicine cabinet because you need to buy the herbs, oils and homeopathic remedies. Don’t get overwhelmed! Oils and homeopathic remedies last forever so you would just be buying once or twice a year. You can buy herbs in bulk.

Note: If you do not believe in Homeopathy (I know many people who believe in alternative medicine don’t believe in Homeopathy) and think that its nothing but sugar pills then please ignore the homeopathy part of this post or give it a try to see for yourself, you have nothing to lose 🙂

Though I am an Aromatherapist and Herbalist I always use Homeopathy first and then follow up with the herbs and oils. Homeopathy is our first line of defense because it works faster and is very gentle and safe for everyone, including Pregnant mamas and Newborns.

When I first started with Homeopathy I bought this Amazing Kit. This Kit comes with 36 Homeopathic remedies and covers all the remedies listed in this post. It also comes with a booklet so you would know what to use for what. This is the best value kit and you don’t have to buy them separate. And don’t worry about a few 1 star review there because they all come from people who think Homeopathy is fraud and is nothing but sugar pills. I really feel sorry for them!

General Rules of Homeopathy:

Do not eat or drink anything 30 min before and after taking the remedies.

Do not use Eucalyptus and Peppermint Essential Oils 1 hour before and after taking the remedies.

Do not eat pungent foods like garlic, onion etc. before and after taking the remedies.

Bumps and Bruises

You never know when and where you might bump into something and end up with a painful swelling on your head and bruises all over. If you have a toddler at home its very common. My Arnica Pill bottle is the first to get emptied because it is the most used remedy in our house.

Homeopathic Arnica 30c : Take one dose as soon as you bump your head or get bruised and follow up with 2 more doses.

Apply Homeopathic Arnica cream on the swelling and see how magically that huge egg disappears in the matter of a few hours. Do not use Arnica on broken skin.

Use Homeopathic Hypericum 30c for falls that involve nerve endings rich areas like Spine, Fingers, Toes, Eyes etc. I once fell right on my back and thought I broke my bones but Ruta and Hypericum healed me in just a few days.

Cuts, Wounds and Burns:

Homeopathic Ledum Palustre 30c for puncture wounds with possible risk of tetanus (if your puncture wound is exposed to soil or old rusty nails)

Ledum not only provides relief from pain and swelling but also has anti-tetanus properties so it helps prevent Tetanus.

Lavender Essential Oils

Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

You can wash your wound with a cup of water mixed with 2-3 tbsp. Apple Cider Vinegar. Pat dry and apply Lavender and Tea Tree 1 drop each. You don’t have to dilute it.

Hypericum Tincture

Hypericum also has anti-tetanus properties so if its a puncture wound you can wash it with hypercium tincture mixed with some water several times a day and follow up with essential oils or hypericum ointment.

Calendula Cream or Oil for Burns

Calendula oil (you can make your own by infusing some dried calendula flowers in coconut or olive oil) is an excellent remedy for Burns, cuts and wounds. It really speeds up the healing process and takes the pain, burning and redness away.

Fever is a natural way of your body telling you that its fighting some infection. We treat a fever only if its really high otherwise we let it run its course which usually is 3-5 days.

Homeopathic Belladonna 30c is an amazing fever reducer if you get a fever suddenly and if its very high. Belladonna is not like a OTC fever reducer that only reduce the fever but Belladonna in homeopathic form is an amazing remedy for all kinds of infection. If your baby has a fever due to teething, ear infection etc. Belladonna works really well, it reduces fever and heals infection too.

Ferrum Phos 6x every 15 minutes helps break a fever too.

Gelsemium 30c is for Flu related fever.

Onion socks is another wonderful way to reduce a fever. Just slice some onions (white onion is better), stuff them into your socks and wear them overnight.

Herbs like Sweet Basil, Peppermint, Lemonbalm, Feverfew and Yarrow are good for reducing fevers. You can make a herbal tea and sip it 2-3 times a day.

Essential Oils of Lemon, Lavender, Peppermint and Frankincense are great for reducing a fever too. Mix a few drops with some carrier oil and apply to the bottom of your feet.

UTI and Candida

UTI can cause severe discomfort and pain. But with these natural remedies you can be UTI free within a few hours. Take these remedies at the onset of UTI (burning sensation, difficulty passing urine, pain in the abdomen, fever) to prevent it from turning into a kidney infection.

Homeopathic Cantharis is a miracle cure for UTI. You should feel better immediately after taking Cantharis. I once gave it to my 15 month old who was crying in pain because he was not able to pee 🙁 Within half an hour he was fine and was peeing normal, infection cleared up after 2 doses.

Homeopathic Hydrastis is a natural antibiotic and works really well too.

Unsweetened Cranberry Juice/Pills, Raw Garlic, Coconut Oil, ACV, Aloe Vera, Uva Ursi Tea are good for UTI.

Yeast infection can get really nasty and can cause so much discomfort and embarrassment. My best advice is to eat healthy, include fermented foods and garlic and cut out processed sugar and white flours.

Take Homeopathic Borax 30c.

Kreosetum 30c if the discharge is watery and is almost gushing out. These 2  are the best remedies to cure even chronic yeast infection.

Pulsatilla 30c if your yeast infection occurs during or after PMS.

You can use Coconut oil topically and eat internally, Apply yogurt externally and eat a small bowl of Yogurt everyday, insert Garlic Clove (wrapped in a thin muslin cloth) up there to treat UTI naturally.

Digestive Issues:

Heartburn, diarrhea, constipation, acid reflux etc. are not so uncommon and you really have to be prepared for anything and everything. If you eat outside or if you travel a lot then the diarrhea remedies listed here are very helpful.

Homeopathic Carbo Veg, Nux Vomica and Nat Phos.

Nux Vomica 30c works really well if the heartburn is triggered by spicy or fatty foods.

Carbo Veg 30c when you feel breathless and the pain is unbearable.

Nat Phos can be taken along with either of these 2 . Take 6x potency 3-4 times a day after meals.

Mix 1 tbsp. Baking Soda with 1 Tbsp. ACV ina  glass of water and have. You should get some relief instantly. You can still take homeopathic remedies if you are taking this remedy.

Peppermint Essential Oil: Mix 2 drops peppermint essential oil with 1 tsp. coconut oil and massage your belly in a circular motion for about 2 minutes. Not for kids below 6 years.

Eat more fiber rich foods like fruits and vegetables. Oats also has a lot of fiber. Dates, Figs, Prunes, Pears are all rich in fiber and help with the smooth bowel movement. You can stock it up if you are prone to constipation.

Homeopathic Nux Vomica and Bryonia work really well on Constipation. I use it on my babies too, just one dose and after 1-2 hrs later its a potty time and no straining and crying 🙂

You can use up to 3 doses in  a day, it usually doesn’t need to be repeated. 1-2 doses does the trick.

If you or your child has congestion you can slice some Onions, put them in a pair of socks and make him wear them overnight. You can also let him sit in a steamy bathroom for 5 minutes several times a day. You can steep some raw Garlic cloves in some cold pressed mustard oil, strain it after 3 hours, warm it up a bit and apply to your child’s chest, back and soles of the feet to clear up congestion and any viral or bacterial infection. For older children ginger tea helps too. Try this Cough syrup recipe if he has a persistent cough.

Homeopathic Hydrastis 200c is excellent for viral or bacterial infection.
