How I CURED My Baby’s Acid Reflux in 7 Days With This Natural Remedy!

How I CURED My Baby's Acid Reflux in 7 Days With This Natural Remedy!

Joy of motherhood is something that can’t be explained in words. And there comes a time when all you want to do is pull your hair and be left alone so that you can get SOME sleep. My Son has been an amazing sleeper since day 1 so I expected something similar with my Daughter but I was so wrong. My Baby Girl would not want to sleep at all. I had to use Homeopathy to get her to sleep when she was in extreme pain. After a few days of struggle (I was also looking after a Teething 20 month old with his First Cold) I figured out that she had an Acid Reflux.  This is the reason why she would vomit after almost every feed. Seeing her in pain was so painful that  I can’t even describe. My Son had a mild colic for the first few weeks which got cured by Homeopathy and my diet change but he never had Reflux or GERD so I wasn’t even prepared for this.

I knew what to give her but since I was not already prepared with the remedies that were required I had to see her suffer for a few more days because the remedy that helped her took a few days to arrive.

Before revealing this amazing remedy I would like to briefly explain Acid reflux and its Symptoms.

What is Acid Reflux?

According to Dr. Sears “Gastro-oesophageal reflux disorder (GERD) or Acid Reflux is one of the most common infant feeding problems, with around 25 percent of all babies experience some degree of it. GER can cause a range of conditions, from the mild (frequent, painless spitting up) to the severe (colic, abdominal pain, and frequent night waking). In fact, GER is one of the most common causes of so-called colic.”

Signs and Symptoms Of Acid reflux or Infant Reflux

Frequent Spitting Up: (while its not uncommon for newborns to spit up to some extent but frequent spitting up could be a sign of Infant reflux)

Projectile Vomiting: This is more than a spit up where a Baby vomits immediately after a feed with some force.

Fussiness and lengthy crying duration: Your Baby might be uncomfortable, fussy and cry for 2-3 hours a day which might look like colic.

There is something called Silent Reflux when your Baby does not vomit or spit up but will have all the other symptoms of acid reflux including pain and crying spell. If you suspect that your Baby might have a Reflux issue you can try giving her the same remedy.

Natural Remedy For Infant Acid Reflux

This Magic Remedy was nothing but a Homeopathic Remedy called Natrum Phosphoricum or Nat Phos. You can buy it here.

Yes, this is the Remedy that acts like a charm! I didn’t have it in 6x Potency so had to order it online and wait for a few days for it to arrive.  I gave her Nat Phos 6x after every feed for a week and stopped it when I felt that she was getting better.  I also gave her Nux Vomica 30c  (buy here) 2-3 times to help her sleep better when the pain was unbearable. That’s it! Her Reflux is a history now and she is a happy 4 month old πŸ™‚

Dosage: 1 Tablet dissolved in a tsp. of breastmilk (or water if you are not breastfeeding) after every feed for 1 week or until all the symptoms of Acid reflux or GERD disappear.

Nat Phos is the same remedy that is used to cure adult acidity and it can be used for Pregnancy heartburn too. Nat Phos is sodium phosphate and is one of the 12 cell salt remedies.Nat Phos because it has no side effect. You might just have to give it to her for a week or 2. Long term usage helps with weight loss in adults so you might notice that your Baby is not gaining much during that week or two and will start gaining once she is off Nat Phos.

Apart from this remedy make sure that you maintain a good balance between acidic and alkaline food. Eat more alkaline foods like cucumber, dandelion, spirulina etc. If you are a Coffee or Tea drinker you can take Nux Vomica 30c whenever there is a caffeine overdose so that it doesn’t trigger your Baby’s colic or reflux.

Keep your Baby upright while feeding. Keep her upright for 15-20 minutes after feeding and make sure to BURP her every time you feed. Do not try to nurse her while lying on bed until her reflux is cured, trust me it doesn’t work!

Offer frequent feedings rather than one large feeding.

This remedy is safe for newborns.

Edited October 14th 2014: I am adding these 2 remedies to this post so if you have tried Nat Phos and it didn’t work you might want to try this-

Aethusa 30c: (You can buy it here) Give Aethusa 30c 3 times a day for 3 days and stop. This remedy is for babies who forcibly vomit after every feed. It can be given along with Nat Phos.

Silicea 6x: (You can buy it here) Give Silicea 6x 3 times a day until all the symptoms clear. Babies who need Silicea usually vomit milk immediately after brestfeeding and the vomit looks like thick  Yogurt instead of milk.

Will you use this Homeopathic  remedy? Let me know your feedback, would be happy to hear some positive stories πŸ™‚ Good Luck Mama! How I Cured My Baby's Acid Reflux in 7 Days With This Natural Remedy

Sounds great but I would definitely include BURP, BURP, BURP! The way our doc described it, air can get trapped under the breast milk in his stomach and then when he does burp, the milk goes with it. My son used to fall asleep nursing and I could never get a good burp out of him while he was asleep so he’d wake up 2-3 hours later in pain and want to comfort nurse to sleep and he’d do this and wake up every 2-3 hours all night long! Finally, I nursed him in a well lit room, got a huge burp out and handed him to Dad to put him to bed. Worked great! He slept for 9 hours straight and after a few weeks it went to 12. If you can’t seem to get a huge burp out, Google or search YouTube for some techniques. It was awesome bonding time for Dad too. They still do it now that he’s almost 3. They talk about their days, cuddle, back rubs, lullabies, etc. It was a total win-win-win!

@Emily: I completely agree with you Emily πŸ™‚ I have mentioned burping your Baby after every feed in this post, may be I should have highlighted it (just made it bold), thank you for reminding me. So glad to hear that it cured your Baby’s reflux, hope more mamas use this technique.

Hello! I’m just starting this on my 2 week old that has horrible reflux and gas. She eats about every 2-3hours still, do I still give her a pill after each feeding or is that too much? Also, before we were using gripe water before bed because that’s when she is the worse and has the most gas. Can I continue to use the gripe water or should I just use the nat phos by itself? Thanks for your help!

    • 4

Yes Anna, you can give her 1 tab after every feed up to 8 Tabs, if the feeding is too frequent you can break it into 2 and feed her half a tab after every feed and 1 tab before bed. Hope it helps πŸ™‚

        Anna Vaillancourt says

@Lleaon Rao: thank you! Sorry to ask again but do you think I could use gripe water at night with the tabs… I’m hoping I’m not going to have to use it but just incase. It’s fennel based but I don’t want to be loading her up on unneeded things!

        • 6

Sorry I forgot to address that query! You can skip or continue Gripe water because Nat Phos starts working within 24 hours. You will notice less severe symptoms and by day 6-7 you should be able to stop Nat Phos. If it doesn’t get better by day 7 you can continue using it until she Is healed but it usually works in a few days. Hope your Baby feels better soon πŸ™‚

        • 7

And you can give her Cuprum Met 3 doses (2 Pills) every 6 hours for a day for Colic. You can buy Cuprum Met here

Hello! I started my 2mo daughter on nat phos 6 days ago and I felt a great improvement by day 3 of the medication. I was very happy with it but since yesterday (day 5) it seems like she went all the way back to the beginning, lots of spits up, wakes up crying heavily out of nowhere, arching her back… I’m so disappointed! Is that common for it to happen? Please advice. Thanks!

    • 11

Hi Carolina, I am so sorry about the delay! Took a blogging break for 5 weeks and only now I am going through all the comments. You can give her this homeopathic remedy. Screaming and arching could be the symptoms of GERD and sometimes even the most natural remedy can aggravate the symptoms for a few days and heal it completely but if she is screaming and crying continuously please see a doctor. My Baby also screamed and arched her back but Nat Phos helped her. Hope she is feeling better now. Take Care πŸ™‚

    • 12

@Carolina Henry: I’m curious what the outcome was here after the Nat Phos helped and then seemed to stop. Thanks!

  4. 13

I was just curious if you can put the pill directly into the bottle or does it have to be given after the feeding?

    Rachel Dee says

Haven’t heard of homeopathic remedy or Nat Phos until I’ve read this blog. I wish I had read this sooner because I’ve had sleepless nights during the first few months of my baby girl because of acid reflux. Fortunately it was just mild; small frequent feeding helped and of course burping. I’ll share this to my friends.

  6. 16

I’m sorry Carolina. Did she just get vaccinated? Brain inflammation from vaccines (vaccine-induced encephalitis) can cause back arching and high-pitched screaming.

How much of the nux vomica do you give them? Thanks! Can’t wait to try this, my little one is 7 weeks and we just found out yesterday that he now has reflux πŸ™

    • 18

So sorry to hear that Carrie! I can feel your pain πŸ™ You can give him Nux Vomica 30c once a day at night or up to 3 doses in a day for not more than 3 days in a row. Hope he feels better soon.

  8. 19

Reading on other forums I am considering trying this for my little boy, we have been on two differents meds that didn’t work. On the forums I saw that I could give it to him and also take 2 3times a day since I am breastfeeding… Do I need to wait to start taking them till I don’t have to give him 4+ tables a day?

  9. 21

My 9 week old son has reflux has been on zantac which actually has been working pretty well except he still isn’t sleeping at night and his naps during the day aren’t the best. the feedings are a huge improvement. I am thinking about doing the homeopathic way to see if it helps with sleeping at night but not sure what to do about the medication he is already on. should I continue giving it to him?

    • 22

You can give him the homeopathic remedies along with the conventional medicine and see how it goes. Please consult your doctor regarding the medicine he prescribed.

    Kristin Wurzak says

Just started the nat phos yesterday for my almost 7 week daughter. She has been uncomfortable and cries when she burps. She also vomited last night for the first time and has been spitting up more. She also started crying while eating and her tummy has been making rumbling noises so that’s why we started the nat phos. Tonight would have been 24 hours and she has been unsettled and crying. Her stomach seemed to be bothering her more. Her symptoms during the day seemed to be better. I just had to give her the gripe water and that seemed to comfort her. Will that interfere with the nat phos treatment? Also how many days should I use it for? I know you mentioned it can cause weight loss.

    • 24

@Kristin Wurzak: Hi Kristin, So sorry to hear that she is in pain! You can give her Nat Phos and Nux Vomica. No, gripe water will not interfere with the homeopathic remedies. It usually takes about a week but you can continue giving her nat phos and stop nux vomica.

  11. 25

    Hello there,
My two months old daughter was diagnosed with silent reflux at five weeks and prescribed Zantac. We tried to avoid the meds until two weeks ago when she was screaming all day and night. After a few days she started to feel better and became a happy baby , sleeping well. However, a week ago she started to be her old self again. Two days ago she even started to eat less and today refused food at every feeding. It takes us an hour or too to get her drink three ounces. She is a big baby, weighing fifteen ponds. Our pediatrician does not seem to be concerned because she was gaining weight until now however, I can not force feed her anymore. I heard about these homeopathic remedies. I would like to now how much nat phos 6 x to give my baby and should I give her the nux vomica as well? My baby is bottle fed with an organic lactose free formula. She never spits up but her symptoms are very bad pain wise. How much formula do I dissolve the np at? She is a bad sleeper when she has problems,so can I give her nv for the night? For how long do I give her each of these remedies? When do I cut het dose in half? Sorry for the questions, I am really helpless now….

    • 26

Sorry to hear about your daughter! Yes, you can give her Nux vomica in the night but make sure that you don’t give it for more than a week, there’s no side effects but it should start working within a week, if its not working its not the correct remedy for your little one. You can mix the tablets with plain water and give her.

Hello. My son who is 20 month old now has been vomiting since his birth. Even now he vomits after feeds from his mouth and nose. I used to give him domstal baby syrup before every feed. But stopped it later since I dint want him to get used to it. Shall giving nat phos for a week solve this problem completely. Pls advice. I m really worried since he is not gaining weight due to this vomiting issue. Also any homeopathy remedy for his weight gain n making him chubby. Also he sweats a lot and therefore suffers from prickly heat problem in this monsoon season also. Pls reply asap

    • 32

      @Archana Pai:
Hi Archana, I suggest you to see his doctor. 20 month old should not have this kind of severe reflux, it could be anything. Please get him checked. And you can give Nat Phos until you see his doctor.

Once his reflux problem is solved he will gain weight don’t worry. Take Care πŸ™‚

@Lleaon Rao: @Lleaon Rao: Thanks Lleaon for reply and advice. His doctor says that until age of 3years it shall continue and later it will stop automatically. One more thing his digestion is also very slow. He vomits even after 2-3 hours of feeding so I really get confused about his feeding timing. Also you dint reply to my another problem which was his severe sweating due to which he suffers tremendous prickly heat problem. his skin as started darkening due to it.

  15. 34

    Hello !!!
I have the same problem. I have a son with reflux. Can I give him just 3 dosages for day or is necessary after each meal ?

  16. 36

Hi, you say to give 1 tablet, but on the bottle it says for infants to give 1/4 of a pill and children age 1-11 give 1/2. Do I really give my 7 week old 1 whole pill?? Thanks

  17. 40

Hi, I just found your page through pinterest…just trying to find anything else to help my childs spit up cause everything I have tried has not done anything yet. Thankfully I am lucky this time (my first son was colic and very fussy) but this son is what they call a “happy spitter” so he really is a happy baby but he is CONSTANTLY spitting up-soaking wet all day long and spit up on everything! Like I said I can’t complain too much since he is not showing signs on being uncomfortable. So I was wondering did you see a big difference with how much spit up or just more of it helping with calming and being comfortable. I need something to help with the reflux to stop the constant spitting up. Thanks so much! I have never heard of it but just wanted to know before I order some.

  18. 43

Hello there. Thank you so much for all the info. I bought nat phos but only found it in granules. The homeopath informed that one tablet is equivalent to 5 or 6 granules so i have been giving my 7 week old baby 6 granules after every feed since yesterday. Do you think the granules are ok? He has an awful cough and seems very uncomfortable and doesnt sleep well. Please help. Thank you so much. Drica

  19. 47

Hope I am not annoying to ask but since my baby is happy and the spitting up doesn’t seem to bother him but he is just CONSTANTLY spitting up from the minute I feed him basically up until next feeding (4 hours) randomly-some more than others-but should I try the Na Phos first or just go straight to the Aethusa 30 and try that first?

    • 48

Yes, you can try Nat Phos and Aethusa together. You can stop Aethusa after 3 days and continue with Nat Phos as long as its required. Hope it helps πŸ™‚

  20. 49

Hi everyone. I am writing this post to help you all to not be afraid of Nat Phos 6x. I know that I was afraid to “risk it” bcause it is homeopatic and our society is thought – fda not approved, therefore can harm. I am pro natural and so I figured this was my last chance before giving my child medications. Being a nurse, I was not ready to expose my child to any side effects and so here is my story:
I have a 6 week old baby who suffers/suffered horrible GERD. It was so bad that she would vomit even 5 times after each feed from her mouth and her nose – to the point that she couldn’t clear it and she started to choke. Numerous times we had to enforce first aid (turn her 45 degrees down on hand, raise chin and slap her back) to get her to start breathing again. I cannot even describe the sleeples nights and fear of loosing her due to this. I stopped eating milk products and wheat-no help. I was feeding her smaller amounts -no help. So when I was mentally exhausted to the point that i did not know what to do to help her I stopped breast milk and gave her formula for about night and day. I am very pro breast freding and so I felt horrible about this step. It helped a little but not enough. So I went online and I came across few sites that repeatedly recommended nat phos – went to store purchased Nat Phos 6x and started her on it right away. I should mention that I went back to breastfeeding, still off milk products and wheat. I saw the difference after first dose. I gave her 1/2 pill in a little bit of water after each feeding (every 2 hrs) for night, day, night. Than 1/2 pill every other feeding for day, night, day, night and now I am giving it to her every third feeding. I hope to have her off of it very soon and I am crossing my fingers that she never gets that bad again. She is doing well on it. She spits up after some feedings I think due to overfeeding a little just like any other baby. Sometimes she spits up only in her mouth. But there is no more projectile vomiting! I should mention that Nat Phos 6x did not fix her gas issue, but i know she will outgrow this one πŸ˜‰ I hope this will help some of you to ease your mind about this product and your decision of using it. I know every baby is different and it may not help to everyone, but I am a very happy mom πŸ˜‰

Thank you so much for sharing your success story Denisa πŸ™‚ I am sure it will help many Mamas who visit this page πŸ™‚

You can try Carbo Veg 30c for gas. Other remedies that are great for gas are Cuprum Met 30c, Nux Vomica 30c and Hyland’s Colic Tabs.

      • 51

Just a note, the hyland’s colic tabs do have lactose as an ingredient!

        • 52

Actually can you comment on this as they all have lactose as an “inactive ingredient”. Thank you!

        • 53

This is from the Hyland’s website which might answer your question πŸ™‚
“People who are lactose intolerant do not have enough of the enzymes in their digestive tract to digest lactose. Our products contain about 64 milligrams of lactose (the sugar from cow’s milk – no protein is used) per tablet. While everyone is different, most lactose intolerant individuals would need to ingest 5000 mg of lactose before they experience symptoms of intolerance from the lack of enzymes. With this large margin of safety, there is rarely a problem with our products when being used as directed on the label. If your physician has determined that you are specifically “Allergic to Lactose”, you should avoid our tablets. If you are very concerned, seek the advice of a licensed health care professional before using this product.”

          • 54

Thanks so much! I did read that but was wondering if you knew of any babies with negative reactions. I just went and bought nat phos 6x for my daughter with severe reflux and colic. Fingers crossed! !

  22. 57

I had found a few blogs all referring to Nat Phos 6X, to help cute my son’s GERD. He had been on Prevacide for 2 months, I think it did help in the beginning but seed to have stopped helping. (Maybe we needed a dose increase since my son had put on some weight.) I decided to try the Nat Phos6X. The first few day it really seemed to help, spitting up was almost completely gone. But yesterday which would he day 4, the vomiting started again. Could it have just been a bad day? I have also been dissolving the tablet with his formula, would it be best with just sterilized water?
    Thank you

  23. 58

I have had my son on Nat Phos 6X for 6 days now, and he is still spitting up/vomiting a lot, should I not be seeing an improvement yet? I give him 1 tablet after every feeding. My other concern is the tablet may not be staying in his system due to him spitting up so much.

    Hi There

Very helpful blog. Thank God that i came to know about this. My 7 week son is also suffering from reflux & i had no idea what to do until i came to know about this site. I have started him with Nat Phos from yesterday but as of now it doesnt seems to be helping much. I hope it will help him too. Just wanted to confirm what should be the dosage for Aethusa 30 which is to be given for 3 days?
Thanks in advance, i hope it works for him ????

I have a 6 week old baby . I just started the treatment. He eats ever 2-3 hours . I’m on the second day now . I’m wondering how much of the pill do I give him ? And for how much longer . He also has trouble sleeping . He doesn’t really sleep so much but he seems very tired ? Can I use something else and the Nat. Phos ??

  30. 66

Hi! Thanks for this info! A couple of questions – can I just put the tab under my twins tongue as the directions state? They seem to accept it better this way (unable to spit it out). Also, will this help their gas? One twin has the worst has! We’ve tried a million formulas (Baby’s Only Lactorelief, Similac Sensitive, Alimentum) to no avail… Thanks!!

  31. 67

I started this remedy when my son was about 5 mo with acid reflux. His would be considered silent; the only time I actually knew there was a problem was when he had blood in his throw up ( which was infrequent) and then he had blood in his stool. It was at this time that the ER prescribed reflux medicine. I was BF and knew this had to be a direct result of his intake. I changed my eating habits and began following this post. I also sought out a homeopathic specialist in my area, she recommended that I add nux vomica ( as suggested by Lleona!). Anyway we were reflux free up until 2 weeks ago. He is now 12 months and it has come back. I am still BF and we booth eat a variety of foods. I am changing his diet and mine to be less acid and acid producing. I am going to resume taking the Nat. Phos asap. I plan to do an elimination diet once we get the reflux under control to determine if he is directly allergic to one thing.

  32. 68

I read on another blog about the benefits of Nat Phos x6 and just to make sure before giving it to my 6 week old son I checked the Internet again and saw your blog. I’m so glad I did!
Thank you Lleaon for sharing this info and your experience πŸ™‚ Because of you and all the other mom comments I’m hopeful that my little man will be better using Np. My baby is on Ranitidine now 2ml 2 times a day which I think is way too high reading other mom was given only 1ml. We started almost 4 days ago and I hated the idea of giving him this strong medicine to a newborn considering that I don’t take anything myself unless is really really necessary. Today he was throwing up even more than in the beginning! Good thing we already purchased NP yesterday so I’m starting today (fingers crossed).
I have a question though: I don’t have enough milk so I’ve been breast feeding and giving formula since he was born. I changed his organic lactorelief formula for Nutramigen because he suffered from a lot of colic and gas besides the Gerd still haven’t decide if this was the right move. Are you familiar with this formula? (Question 1) Also, do you think camomile or cocynthal (for colic) could interfere with the NP treatment? And question 3 For his age and 13pounds should I do the one for a week not exceeding 6 in a day (cause he eats very little now, no more than an oz. but like 10 times a day if I’m lucky).
Thank you so much for your help.

Hi, just saw your post and am a desperate first time mom who needs help. My LO is 6 weeks and he’s been fussy and sleepless with the reflux symptoms except with the fact that he still eats but vomits afterwards. I started the Nat Pjos yesterday but once admitted he screams and aches his back. Should I discontinue or keep giving as he is not vomiting since I started, pls help

  35. 72

Thank you so much for this article. We recently found out that our daughter suffers from silent reflux. She will burp and burp and burp after feedings, be put down for a nap, only to wake up screaming in pain an hour later and guess what?! MORE BURPS. I’ve never seen anything like it. Not much puke though so I was clueless what had happened to my great sleeper. After another wakeful night I stumbled upon your article and I was ready to try anything that wasn’t the reflux medicines being reccommended to me. Already I see a big difference using the nat. Phos 6x. I’m truly hopeful that this is the start of relief for her. Thanks again for these tools!!!

Hello, my 2 month old has symptoms such as spitting up alot , pushing bottle put of her mouth and crying that she’s hungry but unable to eat. She has hiccups after every feed and chokes frequently. She sounds like clearing her throat, she doesn’t vomit and gaining weight probably. Doctors says its acid reflux and prescribed zantac which doesn’t seem to help. Will this nat phos help my daughters symptoms?
