Dr Hauschka Rose Day Cream Review

Review of Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream

It’s a never ending battle for me to find a good moisturizer to use in my winter skin care routine.  I have combination/oily skin and during the winter, I tend to have quite a few dry patches around my forehead and cheeks.  So, with having to find a moisturizer that will hydrate my dry areas as well as not leave other parts of my face oily or breaking out is quite a task. Dr. Hauschka’s Rose Day Cream is actually meant for those with dry, sensitive and/or mature skin, but it doesn’t hurt to try right?

Dr Hauschka Rose Day Cream 2

This cream comes in a sealed, squeeze tube. Upon squeezing the product after opening, I did notice some product separation at the tip (as you can see in the picture – probably due to product settling). A little squeeze removes that excess liquid. Inside the tube, you have this slightly thick white cream. This cream smells like rose with a hint of an herbal scent to it. If you don’t appreciate scented skin care products, this might not be for you.

Dr Hauschka Rose Day Cream 3

First, I applied the cream only on areas that need extra moisture, just to be on the safe side. The first two to three days went well so I decided to use the cream on my entire face. When I first applied the cream, it felt as if the cream just kind of sat on top of my skin. It didn’t feel overly heavy on the skin, but because I was more used to lighter moisturizers with a thinner consistency, made the richness of the cream for apparent. It took about two to three minutes for the cream to fully absorb and I no longer felt as if the cream was just sitting on top of the skin. My skin felt hydrated and softer to the touch. I checked on my face a few hours later, and I didn’t see any signs of excess oil. I did try applying the cream a little heavier and noticed just a bit of shine around my nose area and inner cheeks, but it wasn’t unmanageable. I didn’t get any type of reactions the first week of using the Rose Day Cream, a plus.

I also tested this cream on my boyfriend who has sensitive, dry skin with dry patches and redness on his cheeks. It was difficult to smooth the cream onto his skin due to its thickness (and because his skin is so dry), but I found that patting the cream onto the skin first then smoothing it out worked better. Instantly, his skin looked so much better. He told me his skin no longer felt tight and he really liked how much softer and smoother his skin felt. As someone who doesn’t care much about skin care, he really enjoyed using this cream. Redness was also reduced and there were no more visible dry patches. He used the cream for about a week.

Dr Hauschka Rose Day Cream Consistency

You can see the thickness/density of the cream in the picture above. That amount can cover about half of my face. After the first week, I decided to apply the cream a little heavier, just to see if my skin could handle the extra hydration. I did get two spots on my inner cheek (my oilier areas) but it went away after I went back to use the regular amount I’ve always applied. I only use this cream in the morning, never at night. I personally think it’s too rich for me to use as a night moisturizer and do not want to risk waking up to a breakout. What I don’t like about the cream is that it doesn’t contain any sunscreen, so I have to apply a separate one along with it. It might not be a big deal to others but it is to me, because with using a separate sunscreen in conjunction with the cream, my skin produces more oil (which can lead to breakouts) than if I were to use the cream on its own.

Final Verdict: If you are someone with a dry skin type I would recommend this cream. For those with a much more oily skin type, probably wouldn’t appreciate this very much and I would say just pass on this. I did see that there is a light version of this cream (which I am looking into trying out after I finish this tube) so, those with a combination/oily skin type would be better off opting for that version instead
