Natural Remedies For Grief and Loss

Natural Remedies For Grief and Loss

I am so sorry for not updating the Blog for almost a month! I took a Blogging Break because I am still trying to cope with my recent loss.  My Amazing Grandma passed away ! I have been hit emotionally when life has already been quite challenging for the past few months.

We all grieve at some point in our lives. We could be grieving over  a loss of loved ones, separation, divorce or some other heartaches. Our emotions can go haywire during such times and it feels like nothing in this world can make any difference. Well, its true that I am never going to get my Grandma back, I would never be able to hug her again, I won’t have her shoulders to cry on, she won’t be sharing her secret recipes anymore! That place is just empty and no one or nothing can ever replace it. But mother nature takes care of everyone, if there is grief there is support in the form of plants (herbs, essential oils), family and friends, pets.

I would like to share with you all what I am doing to cope with this major transition.

Homeopathic Remedies For Grief and Loss:

Homeopathy is my first line of defense. I always use homeopathic remedies first followed by Aromatherapy and Herbs. As soon as I heard the shattering news I popped these 2 remedies:

Aconite 200c (available here)

Ignatia 200c (available here)

Aconite can be used for anything that comes on suddenly in your life in the form of a shock or trauma. We use Aconite in our home for sudden high fever, sudden colds and coughs, beginning stages of flu, fear, falls and small accidents (along with Arnica) and anything that is shocking. It helps you calm your nerves and is also an excellent immune booster. That’s the reason it works so well on stopping the colds, coughs, fevers and flu in its track if taken within 24 hours.

Ignatia is the queen of homeopathic remedies when it comes to dealing with emotions. It beautifully balances your emotions and helps you cope with sudden emotional ups and downs including shock, trauma and depression.

You can take 30c potency once daily for about a week or 200c 2-3 doses 3-4 days apart. It can also be taken later when you feel that your overwhelming emotions are returning again.

Aromatherapy Essential Oils for Grief and Loss:

Aromatherapy is a wonderful healing therapy that I have been using for almost 16 years and it never fails me. There is an oil for almost any thing be it physical ailments, emotional issues or behavioral problems.

Oils that are amazing for dealing with Grief and loss are:

Rose Otto

Neroli

Geranium

Bergamot

Cedarwood

Frankincense

Sandalwood

Melissa

Vetiver

Ylang Ylang

Lavender

If you can’t afford Expensive essential oils like Rose, Sandalwood, Frankincense, Neroli you can use Hydrosols as a base(Pure rose or neroli hydrosols are much more cheaper and work as a great base for  floral mists and sprays) and add 1 or more essential oils listed above.

Currently I am using 2 oils very frequently and these are Joy and Frankincense. Frankincense helps me feel centered and grounded and Joy as the name implies uplifts my mood and emotions.

I rub them on my wrists, back of the neck, heart and temples. You can have aromatic bath, use as a room spray, sprinkle a few drops on your pillow, tissue, inhale it straight from the bottle or wear it in your diffuser necklace.

Herbs For Grief and Loss:

There are herbs that can calm, relax and even safely sedate you because your overwhelming emotions can easily trigger insomnia. I have been taking Homeopathic remedies Aconite, Ignatia and sometimes Coffea (not to be confused with your regular cup of coffee) and this herbal tea because they calm my  mind and help me sleep.

Soothing and Calming Herbal Tea Recipe

1 part Rose Petals

1 part Chamomile

1 part Lavender

1 part Hibiscus

I mix everything and store in an airtight container and brew it just like any other herbal tea and have 1 hour before going to bed.

How to brew:

Take 1 cup hot water, add 1 tbsp. of this herbal mixture and steep for 10-15 minutes. Strain and have. I like to add honey to my tea.

Flower Essence Remedy:

Bach Rescue spray (you can buy it here) is made with 5 flowers which  is Dr Bach’s original formula for trauma and stress.  This Spray is amazing, it immediately helps me calm down when I feel panicky and anxious.

I still feel that when I go to my Dad’s place my Grandma will be waiting to hug me. I know that the truth is something else and I am slowly learning to accept it.

Hope this post helps someone, somewhere in some way!
